The Honourable E.P. Chet Greene, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade of Antigua and Barbuda, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Ambassador Maurizio Massari, Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations.<\/p>

 <\/p>\n

During the visit, Minister Greene took the opportunity to address pertinent matters relating to Climate Change. In this vein, he voiced that the harmful effects of climate change on Antigua and Barbuda and other Small Island Developing States (SIDS) requires greater support from Italy, especially in climate financing.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Improving access to concessional and grant financing is critical. As such, Minister Greene called on Italy\u2019s support for a multi-dimensional vulnerability index (MVI) where Prime Minister Browne serves as Co-Chair of a UN expert panel that will review the recommendations for the MVI.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Ambassador Massari noted the concerns relating to climate change and assured that the Government of Italy would give its full support to the fight against climate change. The Government of Italy has taken some steps in tackling the climate issue by appointing a Special Envoy on climate and increasing climate financing by US$ 1.4 bn for adaptation and mitigation.<\/p>\n

On other matters, Minister Greene requested capacity-building support in many areas such as sports development, tourism & yachting, trade, the blue economy, and the University of the West Indies Five Island Campus.<\/p>

Ambassador Massari welcomed Minister Greene\u2019s proposals and called for a monitoring and evaluation mechanism between both countries.<\/p>\n

Minister Greene was accompanied by His Excellency, Ambassador Conrod Hunte, Deputy Permanent Representative of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations, and Mr. Tumasie Blair, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations.<\/p>\n
