The Honourable E.P. Chet Greene, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade of Antigua and Barbuda, met with Her Excellency Ambassador Linda Thomas, Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, on the sidelines of a High-level United Nations Security Council meeting on Climate finance.<\/p>

Minister Greene and Ambassador Thomas discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, where both expressed grave concerns about the dire crisis in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Minister Greene emphasized that the crisis will have a significantly negative impact on global food and energy security, especially for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The ongoing crisis coupled with the protracted COVID-19 pandemic and Climate Change will reverse our development gains.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Ambassador Thomas took the opportunity to thank Minister Greene for Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s contribution to the UN resolution condemning Russia\u2019s aggression against Ukraine from the perspective of SIDS.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, she agreed that the Ukraine crisis will result in global instability but reiterated that the only way to address crises is through united efforts.<\/p>

In this connection, Minister Greene reassured Ambassador Thomas that Antigua and Barbuda places great importance on maintaining good friendly relations, especially in capacity-building and investment. Furthermore, there is a high interest from Antigua and Barbuda to strengthen diplomatic relations by reopening the US Embassy in St. John\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Thomas noted his proposal and indicated her willingness to explore this through the necessary diplomatic channels.<\/p>
