UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson announced that his country will open an Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda and a number of other OECS states.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The diplomatic posts will be established in the Caribbean islands of Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Bahamas,” according to a press release from the high commission in Barbados.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the capacity of the new posts to extend Britain\u2019s global influence, Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said:<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cAs a Commonwealth family of nations, it is in our shared interest to boost prosperity, tackle security issues and clear up the environment… After we leave the EU, Global Britain will remain outward facing, open for business and a champion of the rules-based international order,\u201d he added.<\/p>

British High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Her Excellency Mrs. Janet Douglas, also expressed similar sentiments, noting that the expansion would be part of a wider initiative to increase the breadth and depth of UK diplomatic presence across the World, under the \u2018Global Britain\u2019 initiative.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Douglas said: \u201cThis illustrates the UK\u2019s commitment to, and desire to strengthen relations with the region.These new missions will be small, innovative and agile. They will improve the UK\u2019s regional impact and co-operation with the Caribbean especially in multilateral fora.\u201d<\/p>
