St. John\u2019s, Antigua: As part of her official visit to Antigua and Barbuda, Rotary\u2019s District Governor (DG), for the Southern Caribbean and South America (District 7030), DG Sonya Alleyne, paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister, the Hon. Gaston Browne and the Governor General\u2019s Deputy Sir Clare Roberts earlier this week.<\/p>

During the visits, DG Sonya was accompanied by Assistant Governor (AG), Evangeline Allen and representatives of both the Rotary Club of Antigua and the Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Prime Minister Browne welcomed the visiting DG to Antigua and Barbuda and in the exchange of pleasantries, lauded the work of Rotary Clubs around the world, particularly with regards to in youth development initiatives and giving back to the less fortunate over the years. He also gave kudos to the Club for initiatives that were developed to help the general public cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cSocial programmes are important. It promotes strong communities with the development of practical skills and at the same time developing leadership skills among our young people which is very important in our society. Many of the individuals who have attained leadership positions in this country would have gone through various service organizations, so I understand the importance of partnering with service organizations\u201d, explained PM Browne.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

DG Sonya explained that this month focus is being placed on World Peace and Understanding with particular reference to the youth.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are focusing on bringing awareness on social challenges in reducing conflict among the youth through various projects in the district. Our ai m is to assist in minimizing the possibilities for our youth to engage in toxic situations but instead finding an amicable way to get their point across\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

PM Browne presented DG Sonya with a welcoming package which featured the renowned publication- \u201cA little bit of Paradise\u201d. DG Sonya expressed her gratitude for the gesture. In return she pinned PM Browne with the Peace Pin, in commemoration of World Peace and Understanding Day which was recognized by Rotary International on February 23rd<\/sup> 2022.<\/p>\n

The Governor General\u2019s Deputy, Sir Clare Roberts, also lauded the work that the philanthropic organization has done over the years in improving the lives of residents in Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>\n
