The Ministry of Education and Sports is pleased to announce Chloe Zi Hua Yang<\/strong> as Island Scholar for the year 2020.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Making the announcement, Director of Education, Clare Browne in congratulating the Antiguan born student, her parents and teachers said this is the first time Saint Anthony\u2019s Secondary School has produced an Island Scholar.<\/p>\n

\u201cTraditionally, the Antigua State College is the place from where the Island Scholars come. Most of our secondary institutions do not have sixth form attached to them. However, St. Anthony\u2019s Secondary has an advanced level department attached to that institution and so in 2020, St. Anthony\u2019s would have captured the Island Scholar position,\u201d Director Browne said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Mr. Browne explained the 2020 announcement was delayed due to queries of grades made by students. As such, that process had to have been completed by Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), before a decision was made on the top academic achiever.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Island Scholar award is determined based on students\u2019 performances at CAPE in two units of a two-year programme.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not considering island scholars from just one set of exams, but two years of exams, unit one and unit two,\u201d according to the director.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Results from advanced level subjects are also considered from external examination bodies.<\/p>\n

Through the Board of Education, the Island Scholar will receive US $20,000 (EC $54,000) per annum towards tertiary education at any university she wishes to attend.<\/p>
