THE ECONOMIC TIMES: A latest groundbreaking study conducted in the United States claims that Cannabis<\/a>\u00a0can be the key to\u00a0Covid<\/a>\u00a0prevention, as the plant contains compounds that can stop the virus from entering human cells.<\/p>

According to the research \u2013 conducted by Richard van Breemen and a team of scientists from Oregon State University \u2013 compounds commonly found in\u00a0hemp<\/a>\u00a0(Cannabis), called cannabigerolic acid, can bind to the SARS-CoV-2 spike\u00a0protein<\/a>\u00a0in such a way that it block an essential step in the process by which the virus infects humans. The study was published in the peer-reviewed journal called the \u2018Journal of Natural Products\u2019.<\/p>\n

Ever since the study surfaced, a common question that has been doing rounds is whether smoking up\u00a0marijuana<\/a>\u00a0(another common name for cannabis) would help in keeping Covid-19 away and the answer to that is a flat out \u2018No\u2019.<\/p>
