As part of the 2022 Urban Forestry Work Program, the Ministry of Agriculture\u2019s Forestry Unit began their coconut rehabilitation program where forty-one (41) sites around the country were chosen.<\/p>

First of which is the Jabberwock Beach located at the North Coast of the island, where the unit began clearing some of the undergrowth last week to enhance the aesthetics of the area especially as the vegetative cover beneath the trees have become a hiding place for persons with criminal intent.<\/p>\n

Senior Forestry Officer, Adriel Thibou explained that they are currently pruning the trees which will have multiple benefits as it will make the beach more user friendly by providing shade for beach users, as well as lift the canopy allowing a more aesthetically pleasing view of the coast for motorists passing along the area and eliminate hiding places for persons who wish to cause disturbances.<\/p>

It will also open up the area for the planting of the coconut plants on the beach which will begin in the middle of January where over twenty (20) coconut trees will be grown.<\/p>

Jabberwock beach is a known area for nesting sea turtles, and this was taken into the consideration explained Mr. Thibou.<\/p>\n

They will not be clearing the trees to allow more light to come in from the coast.<\/p>

The beach has many short shrubs that grow along the coast, which will add for protection and a barrier preventing the turtles from going in that direction.<\/p>\n
