Following the removal of 2 ministers from his \u00a0Cabinet by PM Gaston Browne, because of \u00a0\u00a0criminal allegations against them; \u00a0and the prosecution and trial of 3 ministers of the former UPP administration, for alleged conversion \u00a0of busses, reportedly, intended for transportation of students, politicians\u00a0 on both sides of the political divide (in Antigua-Barbuda) \u00a0seem to believe they are being \u00a0uniquely\u00a0targeted for prosecutorial and judicial attention. Really???<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In very recent times, the work of Jamaica\u2019s Auditor General and or the country\u2019s powerful media, \u00a0have led to, no fewer than five elected officials of the governing Jamaica Labor Party,\u00a0 being \u00a0prosecuted or expelled from their party, \u00a0\u00a0because of alleged criminal\u00a0 or perceived corrupt\u00a0 activities.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

These include at least\u00a0 two former \u00a0ministers of the crown. In recent months, no fewer than three major statutory\u00a0 boards (in Jamaica) \u00a0have come under substantial scrutiny. Certain of their officials\u00a0 were \u00a0\u00a0 forced \u00a0to resign and maybe facing judicial processes because of alleged\u00a0 corrupt practices.<\/p>\n

It is instructive to note that, in Jamaica, high officials in the former\u00a0PNP\u00a0administration,\u00a0are required to answer questions in court, relating to the so-called Trafigura Affair.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Recently, \u00a0US authorities charged and \u00a0convicted a minister of the former crown\u00a0 (in Barbados)\u00a0 with \u00a0criminal wrong doings.<\/p>\n

Currently, at\u00a0least 1 former minister of the crown (in Antigua-Barbuda) is believed under investigations by national\u00a0crime authorities in the United Kingdom.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In Haiti, almost 50 people are in police custody because of the assassination of the country\u2019s President by an alleged coalition of political and criminal collaborators.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Truth be told,\u00a0 , PEPs or politically exposed people around the world,\u00a0 are being held to\u00a0\u00a0 increasingly higher standards of probity,\u00a0 because of their potential to facilitate the takeover of their governments\u00a0 (or statutory bodies) by agents of organized crime and terrorist infrastructures.<\/p>\n

In the prevailing International environment,\u00a0 politically exposed\u00a0 persons (PEPs) \u00a0 with a prima facie \u00a0case made\u00a0 out against them, need\u00a0 not be surprised if they are called upon to face judicial\u00a0 proceedings.<\/p>\n

Furthermore,\u00a0 any politically exposed person,\u00a0 who is under active: National,\u00a0 regional or international investigation for\u00a0\u00a0 alleged activities,\u00a0\u00a0 which could lead to criminal charges,\u00a0 should\u00a0 expect\u00a0\u00a0 removal\u00a0\u00a0 from office, ,\u00a0 pending conclusion of any such investigations.<\/p>\n

The world is desperately afraid of the possibility of having to deal with\u00a0\u00a0 governments taken over by criminal or terrorist elements, acting insidiously or otherwise.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, \u00a0the plunder of State resources is a major contributor to underdevelopment in communities and countries around the world. Overtime,\u00a0 such plunder, left unchecked,\u00a0 will lead to failed states… witness Haiti,\u00a0 a fellow CARICOM country. .<\/p>\n

Walk good and hold \u00a0your \u00a0government and opposition officials accountable \u2013 We are only safe if \u00a0\u00a0they are clean.<\/p>\n
