The UPP recently completed the first stage of a trade and investment mission, aimed at securing reputable investors and development opportunities, as part of the Party\u2019s preparation for governance.<\/p>

The delegation headed by Political Leader, Harold Lovell and the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Jamale Pringle, spent one week of intensive meetings with investors in the Dominican Republic and Panama.<\/p>

In a press conference held as part of the UPP\u2019s Heroes Day activities, Lovell and Pringle described the mission as highly successful. The UPP\u2019s leadership met with over a dozen investors in the Dominican Republic and Panama who expressed interest in hotel development, aviation, manufacturing, water harvesting and prison reform. One successful businessman who has expressed a keen interest in investing in LIAT and the development of an \u201cAviation Center of Excellence\u201d, will visit Antigua and Barbuda to begin the due diligence process in early January.<\/p>\n

The UPP leadership team will travel to the US and Canada in January, to conduct a second round of investment discussions. The Party has established an Investment Coordination Committee that will focus on investor relations and will facilitate investment tours and site assessments as part of the due diligence process.<\/p>\n

Consistent with the UPP\u2019s infrastructure and economic development priorities, the trade and investment mission is designed to build relationships with key international partners to promote Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s strong capacity for trade and investment and to unlock opportunities in key developmental areas: tourism, aviation, housing, manufacturing, agriculture, agtech, fintech and international banking.<\/p>

Job creation is the highest priority issue on the agenda, as Lovell and his team promote Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s key assets as an ideal business location: a premier tourism product, central geographic location, trained workforce and stable currency.<\/p>\n

The UPP will establish a Ministry of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation that will play a central role in shaping and delivering hundreds of stable jobs and a strong economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must cultivate new industries and generate new jobs by leveraging the skills, knowledge and time of our people which are our national assets. Supported by financial and physical capital, we will be strongly positioned to improve the wellbeing of current and future generations,\u201d said Hon Jamale Pringle, Leader of the Opposition.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must inspire a renewed sense of vigor and optimism among all citizens, to be a part of the national thrust to revive the struggling economy and restore our country\u2019s global image. And we must do it TOGETHER!\u201d Lovell stated. \u201cThe Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party\u2019s platform of economic revival has failed and despite many ground breakings, no new projects have emerged<\/p>\n

in the last 7 years. The UPP is focused on performance and is already putting the right partnerships in place, with investors who have a proven track record.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Trade and Investment Mission will be one of the main pillars of the Party\u2019s Economic Revival Plan. It outlines a commitment to creating a vibrant, dynamic and prosperous nation that will put citizens and residents back to work and regain the respect and admiration of the international community.<\/p>\n
