On Saturday 4 December 2021, Barbuda celebrated its second Ocean Festival at their Fisheries Complex where they hosted three (3) main events; the 2021-fishing tournament, swimming competition and a seafood cook off competition.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Cleopatra Isaac says that the Ocean Festival is Barbuda\u2019s way of celebrating all that the ocean does for the Caribbean and the World.<\/p>\n

With 71% of the world being made up of the ocean, she urges persons to realize that there is so much to do in order to sustain it as we have a tendency to think what we do on land does not affect the ocean when it does.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Ms. Isaac represents an organization called BarbudanGo is a local brass root organization, which is operated by Barbudans and one of their pillars in the community is the environment as they incorporate the land and the ocean.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The group works incorporation with WINT Water Intelligence, which is an international organization that focuses on healthy seas in different parts of the world.<\/p>\n

The WINT organization supports community engagement activities as, \u201cwithout the community coming on board these policies will just sit on the books and they will not be activated, so to activate policy, law and legislation the community must have taken ownership of it,\u201d explained Ms. Isaac.<\/p>

For the fishing competition, the winner of the biggest fish category was the Off the Hook Crew captained by Rudan. Captain Shiraz and his crew won the most weighed fish category with a total of 142lbs and also the most fish caught category with a total of 8 fish over 10lbs.<\/p>\n

There was a tie between Captain Weil and his crew and Captain Jordan and crew for the most different species caught, Captain Weil\u2019s crew caught three (3) different species; Mahi-Mahi. Bonita and Barracuda while Captain Jordan\u2019s Crew caught three (3) different species as well; Wahoo, King Fish and Barracuda.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Captain Shane and crew with a total of four (4) barracudas and the largest barracuda weighing 20lbs caught the most Barracuda.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Another component of the Ocean Festival was the seafood cook off which had two aspects one of which was the \u201cUnique Eats\u201d where vendors were tasked with using the other sea creatures that are not popularly eaten like octopus and sea crab.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Tenesha Beazer placed first in the cooking competition and was rewarded sixteen hundred dollars ($1,600) while Simone Beazer placed second and was rewarded one thousand dollars ($1,000).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

For the under 16 swimming competition; eleven (11) year old Whitfield Gore placed first while eleven (11) year old Niesean Ogarro placed second. Twenty (20) year old Malcom Beazer won first place in the over 16-swim competition and N\u2019Tini Henrey sixteen (16) years old placed second place.<\/p>\n
