November marked Arbor month and 2021 is recognized as the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables. In recognition of both, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment Division collaborated on a tree planting exercise with three (3) schools.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

S.R. Olivia Davis Primary School, St. Mary’s Secondary School, and Urlings Primary School were recipients of fruits Trees donated by the Environment Division. They received fruit trees like soursop, guava, sweet tamarind, mango, lemon, and cherry.<\/p>\n

The objective of this exercise was to encourage young people to plant trees but more specifically fruit trees, as it will aid in becoming self- sustaining and improve their health.<\/p>

The Environment Division was represented by; Troy Galloway, Denzel Shaw and Eloy Desilver who helped the students plant the trees and educated them on the important of trees to the environment.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Hon. Samantha Marshall, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries & Barbuda Affairs presented and assisted in the planting of the trees. She addressed the students, teachers and principals at each school, encouraging them to take care of the plants and despite them probably not being at the school when it bears it will provide a healthy snack for future students. In recognition of International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, she spoke to them about the importance of fruits and vegetables to the body and encouraged them to \u201cBuy Local, Grow Local and Eat Local.\u201d<\/p>\n
