Antigua Cruise Port successfully trained over 100 stakeholders in its most recent International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Training Seminar.<\/p>

These sessions were held on Tuesday 16th<\/sup> November and Friday 19th<\/sup> November 2021 respectively. ACP\u2019s Health & Safety Officer, Mr. Andre Norton, was the sole facilitator of the training.<\/p>\n

The ISPS Code is an essential international structure and security measure used to regulate and control the safety and security of all ship and port users on an international scale.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

This agreement is made between Contracting Governments, Government agencies, local administrations and shipping and port industries and is implemented to detect security threats as well as to take preventative action against security incidents which could in turn affect international ships or port facilities.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Therefore, the ISPS training is to ensure the implementation of the requirements for port facility personnel without designated security duties based on the relevant provisions of the ISPS Code, B\/18.3 and the Maritime Safety Committee MSC.1\/Circ.1341 Section 4.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe purpose of this training is to ensure that all port personnel, can contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through sensitization and awareness of security threats and know how to detect and deter security incidents, as security of the port is everyone\u2019s business,\u201d said Mr. Norton. \u201cThe sessions were well received, and the participants were quite pleased with the knowledge that was imparted to them.\u201d<\/p>

The stakeholders were inclusive of tour operators such as Tropical Adventures, Heavenly Tours and The Rendezvous Company Ltd., while the St. John\u2019s Taxi Association also came out in their numbers.<\/p>\n

Similar training exercises will continue over a period of time to ensure that all stakeholders are aware and knowledgeable of the introductory port security protocols.<\/p>
