Why is green<\/span> the color of choice for our campaign?<\/p>\n

Glaucoma causes progressive damage to the vision without any warning until the disease process is already at an advanced stage. And although the treatment is effective in controlling the disease, it cannot reverse damage already present. The earlier the diagnosis, the less damage it causes and the less chance of losing your vision. A series of activities during World Glaucoma Week globally alerts people to do eye exams (and optic nerve) regularly to detect glaucoma as early as possible, thus helping to preserve vision.<\/p>

The word glaucoma originates from the ancient Greek word ‘glaucos’, meaning ‘blue-green haze’. In Germany, they refer to glaucoma as “Gr”\u00fc”ne Star” (Green Star) and in Japan it literally means “green intraocular morbidity.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

Green is also associated with progress and moving forward.\u00a0 Lighting up GREEN can show that the ways to avoid blindness are open and depend on you the patient a lot.<\/p>\n

AUA School of Medicine lit up its main building and surrounding grounds<\/p>

Japan lit up 60 of its National monuments and buildings for World Glaucoma Week<\/p>\n

\"\"Brazil lit up its famous Christ the Redeemer<\/em>\u00a0statue in Rio de Janeiro<\/p>

Antigua, with the support of the Community First Credit Union<\/em>\u00a0and the American University of Antigua (AUA) School of Medicine<\/em>,\u00a0<\/strong>lit up the iconic St. John’s Cathedral, St. John’s Roundabout,<\/em> and the AUA School of Medicine.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>
