The Government of Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Second Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project is at an advanced stage with excavating, road paving and drainage works ongoing along sections of Sir Sydney Walling Highway (SSWH).<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Ministry of Works, through the Project Implementation Management Unit (PIMU), is working to rehabilitate a total of twenty-eight (28) kilometers of road network with resurfacing work on four main roads.<\/p>\n

To date, ninety percent of the design build process has been completed, with seventy percent of the earthworks, five percent of the drainage and forty five percent of paving on Sir Sidney Walling Highway.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

A critical project stakeholder is the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), who is responsible for the installation of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Water Mains. The company has already completed the installation of sixty-three percent of the new water pipes. APUA\u2019s telecommunications installation work stands at ninety percent with approximately thirty-five underground junction boxes to be constructed.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Mr. Nigel Francis (Acting Project Engineer II) has been performing duties as Project Engineer for the Second Road Project.<\/p>\n

He said that \u201cAPUA\u2019s Electricity Business Unit has commenced the relocation of utility poles and has maintained steady progress. Overall, works have been progressing satisfactorily.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cIt has been a pleasure assisting with finalizing the APUA variation scope despite some setbacks.\u201d He said that one of the main successes is aligning APUA\u2019s agenda with project goals.<\/p>\n

He calls this a major victory for the team and noted that although the work is still ongoing, significant progress has been made.<\/p>

He emphasizes that Quality Assurance and Quality Control must not be overlooked and he is pleased that the Contractor has presented a detailed plan.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Once this is adhered to, the final product will stand the test of time since the goal is to mitigate negative impacts, especially with a vulnerable climate\u00a0zone.<\/p>\n

Three additional roads, Valley Road (North), Old Parham Road and Anchorage Road will also see improved drainage, widening as well as resurfacing work under the Government of Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Second Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project.<\/p>\n
