British High Commissioner Karen Mae-Hill has confirmed that approximately \u00a394,000 (or 356,062 Eastern Caribbean Dollars) has been raised through the\u00a0Ascension Trust<\/u><\/i>\u00a0<\/u><\/a>charity in Great Britain in support of the Barbuda Relief Fund after the devastation of Hurricane Irma last September.<\/p>

According to their site, the trust is a Christian inter-denominational organisation established in 2003 with, \u201ca passion to mobilise the Church to make a positive contribution to society and to improve the quality of life of the disadvantaged and vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank the many who contributed to the Barbuda cause including philanthropists, business owners, community groups and citizens all across the UK,\u201d said Mae-Hill.<\/p>

The High Commissioner confirmed that she will be making a trip to Barbuda\u00a0on Tuesday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to officially present the donation to the Barbudan people and to further assess the conditions on the island.<\/p>

\u201cThere are two key areas that we have identified for the disbursement of these funds – \u00a0medical supplies for the hospital; and educational supplies,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been in communication\u00a0 with the doctor on site, Dr. Jeremy Deasle, as well as Ministry officials to identify the list of items needed to fully equip the Hannah Thomas Hospital.\u201d<\/p>
