Eight (8) contenders from secondary and tertiary level institutions across the country who participated in the Junior Minister of Tourism Speech Competition during the National Tourism Youth Congress were recently rewarded for their outstanding performance during the annual event organized by the Tourism Education, Training and Awareness Unit within the Ministry of Tourism and Investment.<\/p>

Jody-Ann Parker emerged the winner and was named Junior Minister of Tourism for 1 year. She received a brand-new laptop while the other contenders received tablets sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Investment.<\/p>\n

Alisha Ali, Mekesha Browne, Damari Samuel, Cedric Park, Yenique Walsh, Rebecca Campos and Kimberlee Warner were the other contenders who participated in the annual event that provides a forum for students between the ages of 14 to 17 to share their ideas about the future direction of Caribbean Tourism.<\/p>

\u201cWe are pleased to present to you a token of our appreciation for being exceptional and for participating in a well-executed national competition.\u00a0 You are now a part of us and sometime in the future we might be calling on you to be a part of one of our programs or to even mold a student\u201d, stated Ms. Tracey Browne Tourism Education, Training and Awareness Unit within the Ministry of Tourism and Investment.<\/p>

Hon. Charles Fernandez, Minister of Tourism and Investment, during his remarks said that going through the interview process to select the finalists, he was of the opinion that each one of the participants was very exceptional and could\u2019ve represented Antigua and Barbuda on their own in a great way.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to allowing everyone the opportunity to have an advantage and get to the height of every aspect of tourism and be ambassadors for their country\u201d, the minister continued.<\/p>

\u201cCongratulations to everyone, I want you to leave here not only with a prize but with an increased appreciation for the industry that is responsible for 65% <\/sup>of the country\u2019s GDP and the knowledge that we have done everything we can to open opportunities for the future for young people\u201d, the minister said.<\/p>\n

CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Mr. Colin James said the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority is pleased to partner and support the initiative of the Tourism Education Training and Awareness Unit.<\/p>
