The Halo Foundation donated a supply of 100 care kits to the Directorate of Gender Affairs in support of their domestic violence programme. \u00a0The items were presented by Her Excellency Lady Williams to Farmala Jacobs, Acting Director of Gender Affairs, at a meeting held at Government House last Tuesday.<\/p>\n

During the handover, Lady Williams indicated that Halo was pleased to be able to provide essential care items for use by victims of violence and abuse. \u00a0“Available statistics show that 98% of those who were affected by these unfortunate circumstances in Antigua and Barbuda last year were women. \u00a0In accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 5, we appreciate and continue to support the effort being made across our nation to attain the set objectives.”<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

One \u00a0of the \u00a0targets framed by the UN for gender equality is to “eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres.” \u00a0Lady Williams commended Farmala Jacobs and DoGA for handling the violence and abuse cases of women with respect and dignity, while providing comfort and advocacy to the most vulnerable within our society.<\/p>

Lady Williams also thanked the members of the corporate community that came on board so willingly by providing some of the supplies for the branded kits: \u00a0AS Bryden & Sons, Little Canton Supermarket, Anjo’s Wholesale, Shoul’s Toys and Gifts and Cool & Smooth.<\/p>\n
