Jurors have found singer R. Kelly guilty of racketeering in a sex-trafficking trial lasting six weeks in New York City.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

They\u00a0reached the verdict on Monday after two days of deliberations.<\/p>\n

<\/section>\n

Kelly, 54, had\u00a0been on trial in Brooklyn Federal Court since Aug. 18 on allegations that he preyed on women and girls he lured into his entourage as far back as the mid-1990s.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The singer, whose full name is Robert Sylvester\u00a0Kelly\u00a0and is perhaps best known musically for his 1996 Grammy-winning song\u00a0I Believe I Can Fly<\/em>,\u00a0had\u00a0pleaded not guilty to charges of racketeering and illegally transporting people\u00a0 for prostitution.<\/p>

<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

Prosecutors spent four and a half weeks offering testimony from several accusers, including women who claim they were underage when\u00a0Kelly\u00a0abused them, and people who worked for the singer.<\/p>\n

They had\u00a0sought to present\u00a0Kelly\u00a0as an intemperate predator who used his fame to attract admirers he would later coerce into unwanted sex.<\/p>

<\/div>\n

Several witnesses have said\u00a0Kelly\u00a0also punished victims for breaking his rigid rules governing such banalities as when to eat or go to the bathroom, or who to look at or speak with.<\/p>\n

Four witnesses have testified for\u00a0Kelly\u00a0in his defence\u00a0in an effort to show jurors that people\u00a0Kelly\u00a0employed knew nothing of his alleged abuses.<\/p>

Though\u00a0Kelly\u00a0has been dogged by abuse accusations for nearly two decades, his music career stalled only after scrutiny increased during the #MeToo movement, and after Lifetime aired the documentary\u00a0Surviving R.\u00a0Kelly<\/em>\u00a0in January 2019.<\/p>

Kelly\u00a0has been jailed for more than two years, and also faces sex-related charges in Illinois and Minnesota.<\/p>\n
