Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Stance on the COVID-19 Vaccine<\/p>\n

St. John’s, July 7, 2021: Over recent times, it has come to our awareness that
\nthere have been pronouncements on the COVID-19 vaccine in the name of the
\nSeventh-day Adventist Church, that may have misrepresented the Church and
\ncommunicated the wrong impression among members of the public.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The
\nSeventh-day Adventist Church is a worldwide conservative protestant Christian
\nchurch with over 21,000,000 members, with emphasis on gospel proclamation,
\nhumanitarian relief and development, education and health.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

We are a people of health. We operate some 227 hospitals and sanitariums.
\nMany of our health facilities are actively involved in the fight against the COVID19 pandemic. So, how do we relate to the COVID-19 vaccine?<\/p>\n

The following statement from the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists’ Biblical
\nResearch Institute, issued on December 18, 2020, was in direct response to the
\nCOVID-19 vaccine question:<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Seventh-day Adventist Church places strong emphasis on health
\nand well-being. The Adventist health emphasis is based on biblical
\nrevelation…, and on peer-reviewed scientific literature.<\/p>\n

As such, we encourage responsible immunization\/vaccination, and have no
\nreligious or faith-based reason not to encourage our adherents to
\nresponsibly participate in protective and preventive immunization
\nprograms. We value the health and safety of the population, which
\nincludes the maintenance of ‘herd immunity.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

We are not the conscience of the individual church member, and
\nrecognize individual choices.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

These are exercised by the individual.<\/p>\n

The choice not to be immunized is not and should not be seen as the
\ndogma nor the doctrine of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.<\/p>\n

We trust that the above will serve to clarify the Church’s position. In the
\nmeantime, we wish to inform the general public that, notwithstanding the many
\nmessages and opinion of individuals, the South Leeward Conference is the official
\nbody for the Seventh-day Adventist Church on the island and as such, is the only
\nbody that should be considered as authentic in respect to pronouncements about
\nthe Church’s positions.<\/p>\n
