As COVID-19 cases spiral in the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda the government there has opened yet another facility to care for patients with the deadly virus.<\/p>

There have been at least seven deaths in the last week alone on the island nation with a population of 100,000 people.<\/p>\n

With the main hospital there at its COVID capacity, the government had to find new treatment centers for people moderately and severely ill.<\/p>

There are close to 800 active cases on the island.<\/p>

The Ministry of Works handed over the Sir Cuthwin Lake Medical Centre (formerly NTTC) to the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister, the Honourable Gaston Browne, Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, Sir Molwyn Joseph, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rhonda Sealey-Thomas and Medical Director of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, Dr. Albert Duncan were the featured speakers at the brief handing-over ceremony.<\/p>
