On Monday 6th<\/sup> September, the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) will launch its first podcast, the eight-episode series \u2013 Islands on Alert<\/em>, highlighting the realities facing Small Island Developing States as the climate change crisis erodes lives and livelihoods.<\/p>

The series features real-life stories from the frontline of the fight against climate change, with inspiring testimonies from young innovators, activists, and leading policy makers who are working to build a better future and challenging the world to step up with urgent climate action. Islands on Alert<\/em> will release one episode each week leading up to the pivotal, two-week climate negotiations, COP26, that begin in Glasgow, UK, on 1st<\/sup> November.<\/p>

\u201cAOSIS is proud to provide this platform that unites our Small Island States and demonstrates the exceptional role we are playing, leading the charge against climate change,\u201d said AOSIS Chair Ambassador Aubrey Webson, who will be featured on an episode. \u201cWe are thankful for the partnership of the UK Mission to the United Nations on this initiative. The podcast amplifies the voices of our vulnerable communities and, importantly, it links our on the ground realities to COP26.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIslands are depending on COP26 to mobilise rapid global action to reduce carbon emissions at a pace that will limit global warming to 1.5\u00b0C. COP26 will also be the platform for advancement on critical issues such as climate justice, climate finance, adaptation and mitigation, and loss and damage, all of which are integral to supporting island states and providing opportunity for a sustainable future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The podcast addresses these issues with compelling insights from experts around the world all fighting to save their homes from the devastating effects of climate change. Featured guests include AOSIS negotiators, scientists, energy specialists, and indigenous and youth voices (1).<\/p>

Podcast host, Andy Liburd of Antigua and Barbuda, is a well-known media professional in the region. Andy is a veteran of radio and television and has served as the News Editor of his national newspaper. The podcast producers are Leila Henry and Lowie Price, with script direction by Bianca Beddoe and Tashwa James.<\/p>\n
