During my daily review of regional and international media on Sunday September 5th<\/sup>, I was\u00a0(pleasantly)\u00a0alarmed by reports of\u00a0 a meeting between\u00a0 PM Holness and Opposition Leader Golding. Reports are that, the men met\u00a0to discuss Jamaica\u2019s COVID vaccination strategy.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Most importantly, following the meeting, Mark Golding is reported to have\u00a0published a statement, pledging to continue his party\u2019s effort\u00a0in support of the national vaccination programme.\u00a0So, Jamaica\u2019s COVID prevention and control\u00a0effort\u00a0is no longer seen as a \u201cgovernment thing\u201d\u00a0but a national undertaking.\u00a0In a show of mature\u00a0statesmanship, and astute political\u00a0leadership, both Government and opposition,\u00a0signalled their willingness to\u00a0share responsibility for the success or failure of the effort.<\/p>

The reported meeting between Holness and Golding, \u00a0represented a breath of fresh air, for the singular reason, that the Jamaican Government and opposition were able to put aside, partisan\u00a0interests and manners, to discuss a most pressing national priority.<\/p>\n

When political interests converge, there is a tendency for most (if not all) civil\u00a0interests to follow their example, because:<\/p>
