The Government of Dominica and the nation, by extension, is now in a state of mourning following the sudden passing of the Parliamentary Representative for the Grandbay Constituency and Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, with Specific responsibility for Diaspora Relations, Edward Registe.<\/p>

Through tears, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, who addressed the nation on state-owned DBS Radio this morning said that the death of Registe, who was a strong advocate for the \u201clittle man\u201d and also for the stalwart of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), is \u201cdifficult to accept.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had a passion for youth development and people\u2019s development and he gave his entire life to the service of Dominica and the Grand Bay constituency and also to the party,\u201d Skerrit recalled. \u201cEd was synonymous with the labour party. He was a committed, dedicated and very loyal individual. I can say that Ed was one of my strongest and most reliable allies within the labour party. We could always count on him. He had a passion for what he did.\u201d<\/p>

He noted that the passing of the former politician was a huge blow to the country and expressed his condolences to the family, the people of Grandbay, party supporters and well-wishers on the death of \u201ca true giant in every sense of the word.\u201d<\/p>

He went on to state that their friendship spanned over two decades and throughout that period, \u201cit has been very rewarding and fulfilling\u201d being able to rely on Registe.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a void that has been created and a void which will be very difficult to fill,\u201d the Prime Minister lamented. \u201cEventually, we \u00a0will have to accept his departure from this earth but for now, it is absolutely difficult to accept.\u201d<\/p>

According to his mother, who also spoke to DBS, Registe left home for work yesterday morning and some time throughout the day she was informed that he was rushed to the hospital.<\/p>\n

She said later that evening, she received a call from her son who complained of feeling unwell but was unsure of the cause.<\/p>

Mrs. Registe disclosed that sometime after 4: 00 o\u2019clock this morning, she received a call informing her that her son had gone into cardiac arrest and shortly after, the family was informed of his passing.<\/p>

\u201cIt is a very sad situation for us because Ed was the right-hand man in that house for us,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was really a very charming man and it\u2019s a sad situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2014, Edward Registe was appointed a Dominica Labour Party (DLP) senator and Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly of Dominica.<\/p>\n

He was a former General Secretary of the Dominica Labour Party.<\/p>\n

Registe successfully contested the Grand Bay seat for the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in the 2019 General Election.<\/p>\n

He was appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, with Specific responsibility for Diaspora Relations in the Roosevelt Skerrit Administration on 17 December 2019.<\/p>\n
