Dominica: While addressing the press conference on 11 August 2021, the Health Minister of\u00a0Dominica<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 Irving McIntyre, informed that the country is currently having 311 positive infections of the COVID-19 mutant.<\/p>

This is so far the highest active cases record of COVID-19 cases in the island country.<\/p>\n

The Health Minister further informed that out of the active COVID-19 infections, 159 are males and 152 females, varying from 2-year-olds to 88-year-old.<\/p>

He further noted that so far, no death has been reported due to the contagious coronavirus mutant and added that the\u00a0COVID-19<\/a>\u00a0patients are recovering at a fast speed.<\/p>\n

The patients are currently in the isolation at the COVID-19 care complexes in Portsmouth, the Health Minister informed. He added, \u201cDominica<\/a>\u00a0has multiple facilities under over COVID-19 care complexes in Portsmouth because the expansion was important not only to expand the capacity but also to facilitate the differentiation of the cases.\u201d<\/p>

Dominica\u2019s Health Minister further noted that the COVID-19 testing would continue to be in progress across the island at the community centres, adding that \u201cThe facility has been laid so that every resident of Dominica should know about their COVID-19 status.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition, the Dominican government earlier this month has extended the curfew till 17 August 2021 amid the surge in the COVID-19 infection rate.<\/p>

The\u00a0COVID-19 testing<\/a>\u00a0centres are set up at the \u2013 Windsor Park Stadium, and mobile testing have been conducted in various villages across the island, which includes \u2013 Mahaut, Campbell, Morne Prosper, Layou, Calibishie, Marigot and multiple others, the Health minister earlier noted.<\/p>\n

The government is also testing the healthcare staff across the island so as to ensure the safety of every hospital staff member.<\/p>

The Prime Minister of Dominica \u2013\u00a0Roosevelt Skerrit<\/a>, while addressing the nation on DBS radio, earlier, informed that the Saint James COVID-19 centre would be used for symptomatic COVID-19 patients while some apartments in Portsmouth would be used for asymptomatic patients.
