Cricket West Indies (CWI) yesterday announced that 56 U19 players will participate in the Rising Stars U19 High Performance Camp in Antigua.<\/p>

The camp has been designed to help lift the players to the next level of physical and mental skills development, in the ongoing preparation programme for the 2022 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup to be played in the West Indies in January and February next year.<\/p>\n

The players began arriving in Antigua last weekend.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Along with targeted coaching sessions,\u00a0the\u00a0players will also compete in\u00a0warm-up matches,\u00a0and more intense\u00a0\u201ctrial\u201d matches\u00a0at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and Coolidge\u00a0Cricket\u00a0Ground international venues. The final squad of 18 players will be selected for\u00a0the West Indies Rising Stars U19 Tour of England in September where they will play six Youth One-Day Internationals.<\/p>

\u201cGiven all the challenges\u00a0we faced\u00a0over the last 12 months, a huge amount of work has taken place across the region to\u00a0identify\u00a0and start\u00a0developing those players in the provisional pool for the ICC U19 World Cup,\u201d said Graeme West, CWI\u2019s High Performance Manager.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u00a0are now\u00a0bringing the players together for\u00a0an unprecedented\u00a0trial series in Antigua that will provide them with the opportunities to showcase their talent\u00a0and their readiness for center stage. After four rounds of matches the group will be reduced and those players retained will attend a High Performance Camp with 18 of those players travelling to the United Kingdom to play six Youth\u00a0ODIs against England as part of the preparation for the World Cup. The\u00a0West Indies Rising Stars U19 Tour\u00a0will reward those players that perform well in the trials and show a hunger and desire\u00a0to learn\u00a0and improve.\u201d<\/p>

West thanked the various Territorial Boards for helping to facilitate the unusual selection process and more customized preparation approach, which became necessary due to the evolving and unpredictable COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.\u00a0He also outlined the\u00a0contribution of\u00a0a few of those CWI coaches\u00a0who have played a key role in developing the\u00a0Rising Stars\u00a0programme.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe technical programmes created by Head Coach Floyd Reifer, have been delivered by coaches keen to provide support to our stand-out talents. Gregory Seale has led a Strength and Conditioning Programme engaging enthusiastic and experienced local support to work with every player. The games in England will allow the support staff to begin developing team strategies and to get a greater understanding of each player and what they will bring to the team.\u201d West said.<\/p>

\u201cPlayer Development Manager\u00a0Ayana Cooper\u00a0has developed a Personal Development programme,\u00a0delivered remotely over\u00a0the past\u00a018 weeks,\u00a0that featured Mental Skills, Sports Nutrition, Anti-Doping, Anti-Corruption, Financial Management and mentoring\u00a0sessions with current International players and former U19 players.\u201d<\/p>
