The Antigua Barbuda Emergency Medical Services is now better equipped to offer the highest level of prehospital care after two of the Supervisors, Joanna Otto and Brandon Browne, formerly trained as Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians completed their Paramedic training in Trinidad.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Having completed the course which was funded by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment and the Board of Education, ABEMS now has three Paramedics attached to the Department.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Director of the ABEMS, Shawn Greenidge congratulated both Paramedics on a job well done.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He further indicated that he hopes to have other Advanced EMT’s complete this training as well as it would place the ABEMS in an even better position to offer the highest level of prehospital care to citizens, residents and visitors in Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Both Browne and Otto indicated that being a Paramedic is quite a prestigious position to hold while stating that it requires much more advanced training than becoming an EMT.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

As a Paramedic, they can perform all basic life support functions that the Basic EMT’s do but they are also certified to perform more advanced lifesaving procedures such as end-tracheal intubation, intravenous access and drug administration as well as manual defibrillation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They also become trained and certified in advanced cardiac life support,.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Minister of Health, Wellness and the the Environment, the Honourable Sir Molwyn Joseph and the Permanent Secretary, Ena Dalso-Henry wishes to congratulate Browne and Otto on their successful completion of the course.<\/p>\n
