The Ministry of Works through the Project Implementation Management Unit (PIMU) and the consulting firm, ECMC, are teaming up and embarking upon a series of consultations focusing on major junctions along the four corridors earmarked for resurfacing works under the Second Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project (SRIRP).<\/p>

A consultation held a week ago featured discussions about maneuvering around major junctions along Anchorage Road and Sir Sydney Walling Highway. This time, stakeholders will focus on major junctions along Old Parham Road and Valley Road (North) on Thursday, 15th July beginning at 9:00am.<\/p>\n

\u201cFacilitating stakeholder consultations is a critical component of the project implementation process because it fosters local ownership and helps to mitigate negative impacts,\u201d says the PIMU\u2019s Community Liaison Officer, Anne Harewood George.<\/p>

The PIMU\u2019s Project Coordinator Dennis Cudjoe echoed her sentiments and emphasized that these types of infrastructural projects require a high level of stakeholder engagement in order to inform the design and address potential risks.<\/p>

Over the last two weeks, the unit\u2019s communications and stakeholder engagement team has organized targeted interactive consultations aimed at getting the input from stakeholders in an effort to ensure that the design-build road project meets international standards.<\/p>\n

Representatives from the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, the Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board, the Antigua and Barbuda Royal Police Force, the Development Control Authority and members of the trucking community are being given an opportunity to share their concerns with the Project Team during the consultations.<\/p>

Through the consultative process, the stakeholders will also be given an opportunity to make suggestions for improvements so that the ongoing road works will accelerate and improve national infrastructure and road safety.<\/p>\n

The Caribbean Development Bank is financing the SRIRP through a loan while counterpart funding is being provided by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>
