In another blow for pandemic weary Americans eager to travel again, the country\u2019s largest carrier, American Airlines, canceled hundreds of flights over Father\u2019s Day weekend.<\/p>

Passengers sounded off on social media in response after pilot shortages, staff sickness and maintenance issues disrupted travel.<\/p>\n

One father, Ken Novak, said he has felt powerless to help his 17-year-old daughters, who have been stranded for 27 hours in Dallas.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/div>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re just, by this point, very tired and very exhausted, very much in need of a change of clothes, a shower and probably a good night\u2019s sleep,\u201d Novak said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The TSA screened more than 2 million people on Sunday \u2014 the most since the pandemic began.<\/p>\n

As the U.S. heads into the busy travel season, ongoing issues like these could force the airline to cancel 60 flights a day for the remainder of June \u2014 equivalent to 600 planes \u2014 and up to 80 flights a day through mid-July, totaling over 900 cancelations.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In a statement, American Airlines blamed the disruptions in part on \u201cunprecedented weather,\u201d saying, \u201cWe never want to disappoint, and feel these schedule adjustments will help \u2026 minimize surprises at the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith all due respect, weather is always going to be there. That\u2019s not going to cause hundreds of cancelations unless there\u2019s a typhoon,\u201d CBS News travel editor Peter Greenberg said.<\/p>

\u201cYou have problems with staffing, you have problems with trainings, you have a problem with logistics, and the numbers are just getting worse and worse,\u201d Greenberg continued.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

American Airlines says the remainder of their furloughed pilots won\u2019t be fully ready to fly until at least the end of the month. Delta is looking for 1,300 customer service reps and the TSA has hired 4,000 of their targeted goal of 6,000 employees before the end of summer \u2014 all this as demand for travel skyrockets.<\/p>\n
