Over 40,000 registered voters are heading to the polls on Monday in two by-elections being held in the Corporate Area.<\/p>

In St Andrew North West the race is between the ruling Jamaica Labour Party\u2019s (JLP) Dr. Nigel Clarke and the main opposition People\u2019s National Party\u2019s (PNP) Keisha Hayle.<\/p>\n

The voters are electing a new Member of Parliament for the constituency of St.Andrew North West and a councillor for the Norman Gardens division of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC).<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

While in Norman Gardens, the PNP\u2019s Jacqueline Lewis, will face the JLP\u2019s Headley Wilson.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

On the weekend, the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ), said it was fully prepared for Monday\u2019s activities and also reminded registered electors that they are allowed to vote without their voters\u2019 ID card.<\/p>\n

The 112 polling stations in St Andrew North Western and 52 in the Norman Gardens Division opened at 7am (local time) and are scheduled to close at 5 pm after which the preliminary counting of ballots will take place.<\/p>

The by-election in St. Andrew North West was called following the recent resignation of veteran politician Derrick Smith.<\/p>\n

Smith, a long standing member of the JLP, recently resigned after representing the constituency for 39 years.<\/p>

The JLP currently enjoys a three seat majority in the 63 seat Parliament.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In the Norman Garden\u2019s division, that seat became vacant last year with the resignation of Dr. Angela Brown Burke, who is now a Member of Parliament.<\/p>\n

Brown Burke, moved to the lower house after winning a by-election for the St. Andrew South West constituency following the resignation of former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.<\/p>\n
