The man who stole a boat from Antigua and landed in St. Kitts had two charges pending in Antigua courts.<\/p>

David Smith had been living in Antigua for a few years and is said to be a fugitive from justice.<\/p>\n

He is alleged to have burnt a woman\u2019s vehicle earlier this year and was charged in that matter.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He made an appearance in All Saints Magistrate\u2019s Court and was released on bail before skipping this country.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Smith then stole a boat from the St. John\u2019s Harbour on May 11 and fled to St. Kitts & Nevis has been charged by the police in that country.<\/p>\n

The lawmen have issued a press release indicating that 27-year-old David Smith was arrested and charged, on May 28 and 31, with offences related to his illegal entry.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He now faces charges of entering a port that is not recognized as an appropriate port of entry and of entering the Federation without permission of the Ministry of National Security.<\/p>\n

Smith was also charged by the Customs and Excise Department for failing to file a declaration with a proper officer; arriving in the Federation in a vessel at a place other than a notified place by a Customs officer; failure to report directly to a Customs or a police officer upon arrival into the Federation; and failure to produce a certificate of clearance.<\/p>

He has been placed on remand at Her Majesty\u2019s Prison in St. Kitts pending the outcome of his cases.<\/p>

Initially, he was quarantined after being detained by the police, and reportedly was released last week after testing negative for the COVID-19 virus.<\/p>\n

On May 10, the Fisheries Division in Antigua put out a notice indicating that a\u00a0boat\u00a0had been\u00a0stolen\u00a0from the Perry Bay pier. The next day, Smith \u2013 a native of the Federation \u2013 was seen with a suitcase, leaving Lime Kiln Bay in St. Kitts, after disembarking from a boat.<\/p>\n
