C.O.Williams Construction Limited has been awarded a contract to complete works under the Government of Antigua and Barbuda Second Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project (SRIRP) and is now well underway with resurfacing work on Sir Sidney Walling Highway (SSWH).<\/p>

Inclusive of Sir Sydney Walling Highway \u2013from the roundabout at Sir George Walter Highway to Willikies Village, Old Parham Road, Valley Road North as well as Anchorage Road are four (4) of the Nation\u2019s major thoroughfares that will become smoother and wider surfaces under the SRIRP.<\/p>\n

The Project Implementation and Management Unit (PIMU) headed by Mr. Dennis Cudjoe is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the road rehabilitation project.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The PIMU is pleased to report that the work has been progressing as a steady rate and advices that nighttime works on SSWH will take place to facilitate a road crossing for the installation of water main pipes by Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) on Wednesday 12th<\/sup>May 2021, from 10pm- 5am.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Contracting firm is working along with the APUA Water Business Unit to complete the installation. The water mains crossings will continue foreseeable with nighttime works and will result in periodic closures at different sections of the highway as roadworks progresses.<\/p>\n

The water mains installation started in April is being extended due to an extended delay in the shipment of materials to undertake the Works impacted by the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic and adverse weather conditions which were experienced in Texas USA, where the materials are being procured.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The blocking of the Suez Canal in Egypt by the massive EVERGIVEN container ship has also impacted shipping timelines worldwide and further exacerbated the situation.<\/p>\n

As a mitigation strategy, the Contractor is installing the Asphalt Concrete, to facilitate the APUA water mains road crossings. At the end of the process, the section of the cut road surface will be reinstated to allow the smooth flow of traffic.<\/p>

Every effort is being made to ensure that all stakeholders are informed of traffic management measures with notice of closures issued at least forty-eight (48hrs) hours in advance of the Works.<\/p>

The PIMU is appealing to road users to be mindful of the fact that the safety of road workers is of utmost importance and is advising drivers to traverse the work zones with extreme caution while adhering to the temporary traffic lights and take direction from the traffic attendants during the day time and observe temporary lights while traversing the work zone at night.<\/p>\n
