Michael Burton, who represented the United Progressive Party in the City South constituency in the last election, has died.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

News reached the Party on Thursday afternoon, May 6, that Burton had succumbed after a long illness and treatment in the United States.<\/p>\n

The Party\u2019s Leadership, Executive and Membership were thrown into mourning at the loss of a brother whom they described as \u201calways willing;\u201d \u201cthe ultimate team player;\u201d and a man who \u201cnever said \u2018No.\u2019\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cIt was always our hope that he would come back to us and be a part of the change he longed for and worked toward,\u201d says Political Leader Harold Lovell on behalf of his colleagues. \u201cHe made a decision and gave a commitment to this Party and he honoured it.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cOur heartfelt sympathy goes out to his entire family, but especially to his wife and children,\u201d Lovell adds. \u201cWe feel and share their loss.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Deputy Political Leader, Willmoth Daniel, was also shaken by the news, saying, \u201cThis hit me hard.\u201d And former Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer and his family shared their grief at the passing of Burton, whom they considered a friend.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The aspiring politician, who was fondly tagged\u201cBurton for Certain,\u201d was a well-known businessman in the Ovals\/Ottos community and, before that, served the United States Army in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

A committed \u201cloyal son of Joseph,\u201d Burton also served his alma mater, St. Joseph\u2019s Academy, as a PTA president, and was a supporter of the Mary E. Piggott Primary School; the St. Vincent de Paul Society of the Catholic Church; and the Police Force of Antigua & Barbuda.<\/p>

He attended South College and was a graduate of Alabama State University, where he earnied a degree in Business Administration.<\/p>
