On April 26 and 27 the Department of Environment (DOE), in collaboration with the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS),\u00a0 hosted a two-day Shelter Management Workshop for over twenty participants from churches and community groups who have received grant funding from the Department of Environment.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The main objectives of the workshop were to provide disaster response and shelter management training to climate adaptation small grant awardees;\u00a0 provide stakeholders with an overview of the shelter registration process; and to train and certify 15-20 persons in shelter management.The workshops featured presentations from both DOE staff and officers from the NODS.<\/p>\n

The workshops are one of the output goals\u00a0 of the Adaptation Fund (AF) project titled: \u2018An integrated approach to physical adaptation and community resilience in Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s north-west McKinnon\u2019s watershed\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This project seeks to reduce the vulnerability of the McKinnon\u2019s community, by increasing the ability of the watershed to handle extreme rainfall, while increasing the resilience of the built environment simultaneously to cope with the multiple stressors of climate change.<\/p>

<\/div>\n

In addition to the Adaptation Fund project grant recipients, attendees also included recipients of grant funding from the Enhanced Direct Access (EDA) project titled: \u201cIntegrated physical adaptation and community resilience through an enhanced direct access pilot in the public, private, and civil society sectors of three Eastern Caribbean small island developing states<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

The list of attending stakeholders included: Spring Gardens Moravian Church, St. Francis of Assisi Church, St.Andrew\u2019s Anglican Church,Villa Catholic Church , Holy Family Cathedral, Vibrant Faith Ministries, South Leeward Conference, Clouds of Glory Ministries, and the Urlings Cricket Club.<\/p>
