The Booby Alley housing development and renewal project is moving one step closer to becoming reality with heavy duty equipment starting demolition of those properties earmarked to be torn down to make way for the construction of new homes for residents.<\/p>\n

Project manager, Kem Hodge, said the bulldozers spent Wednesday and Thursday at the site and will return for a third consecutive day today, Friday.<\/p>

He disclosed that residents of the area are now fully onboard in support of the project.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are getting extremely good cooperation from the residents who are anxious to be part of a project that will improve their living conditions immensely,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Not all the properties will be destroyed as some that are in better condition will be moved elsewhere.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Hodge expressed some concerns that finding adequate housing for all the residents may pose a challenge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe twenty temporary houses at Bay Street (twelve) and at Pestaina Street (ten) cannot accommodate the more than two hundred and fifty people. It is especially difficult to find accommodation to especially house those single-person or two-person households. However, we have a plan which we submitted for approval and once we have that then we should be okay,\u201d he stated.<\/p>

The development is at the core of a promise made by area representative, Prime Minister Gaston Browne to the people of Booby Alley in the Point to bring housing improvements to the area.<\/p>

The Chinese government has agreed to finance and construct the new homes. Construction is expected to start before year-end.<\/p>\n
