On Thursday, April 1, 2021, Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s oldest indigenous insurance company, State Insurance Company Limited, donated EC $100,000 towards the Government\u2019s COVID-19 Vaccine Program.<\/p>

In a brief hand-over meeting, General Manager for State Insurance Company Limited, Lyndell Francis-Butler presented the cheque to Prime Minister Gaston Browne in his office on Queen Elizabeth Highway.<\/p>\n

Accepting the contribution on behalf of the Government and the people of Antigua and Barbuda, Prime Minister Browne thanked both the General Manager and staff of State Insurance. \u201cI take this opportunity to give thanks on behalf of the Government and the people of Antigua and Barbuda for this very generous contribution.\u201d<\/p>

PM Browne noted that today\u2019s contribution is testimony that although the government has not actively requested any contribution towards the program, partners like State Insurance demonstrates that we can be our brothers\u2019 keeper and our sisters\u2019 protector by joining the fight against COVID-19.<\/p>

History of State Insurance:<\/h2>\n

State Insurance Company Limited was established in 1977 mainly in response to the common concern for the extent of foreign exchange leakage created in a foreign-dominated sector. It was established with a capital sum of EC $100,000 loan by the Government and given the status of a Department of Government.<\/p>\n

The limitations of this form of the organization were obvious, not the least being the lack of \ufb02exibility in decision making and the General Manager acting as Company sole being subject to all the bene\ufb01ts and lack of bene\ufb01ts of a corporate body. It is also reasonable to assume that as an independent body it could attract more business. Consequently, the State Insurance Company Limited Act, 1985, established the constitution and functions of State Insurance Company.<\/p>

State Insurance Company has attained high visibility not only as a result of the very impressive architectural and physical facilities within which it operates but because of the contribution it has made and continues to make in the area of sports, culture, education, and the arts.
