Ten students of the Antigua & Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute (ABHTI) have been the recipients of good fortune, as they have each been awarded a US$500 grant, from the Mill Reef Club, which will be credited to their tuition accounts at the Institute.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The awardees are Yoneta Rodney, Kiana Marajah, Jessica Ryan, Cheriah Charles, Latoya Edwards, Nia Benjamin, Nolanda Frederick, Talisha Keelan, Julius JnoBaptiste and Faith Richards.<\/p>\n

When advised, the students\u2019 excitement, shock, in some cases, was palpable.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Nolanda Frederick, Student Government President and second-year food and beverage management student, when informed about the grant noted \u201cI am extremely elated about being a recipient of this award. This comes as surprise and at a time when I am currently unemployed.\u00a0 This will go a very long way and I am very thankful.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Echoing similar sentiments was Talisha Keelan.\u00a0 \u201cThis is awesome!\u00a0 And it will really help me.\u00a0 I don\u2019t even know what to say.\u00a0 It\u2019s great, because due to the pandemic I have not been able to raise all of the funds required, so I am really grateful,\u201d the year two resort management student said.<\/p>\n

Julius JnoBaptiste, the only male among the ten, was very happy and remarked that he too was \u201cvery thankful for the award especially during these difficult financial times.\u201d<\/p>

Another student, Faith Richards, was so elated that she exclaimed \u201cI\u2019m so happy! Wow!\u00a0 Thank you so much!\u201d<\/p>\n

Executive Director of the Institute Ruthlyn Matthias expressed the value and importance of such a grant to the recipients.\u00a0 She mentioned that since the pandemic forced the nation into lockdown in March of 2020, and thrusted schools into online instruction, many students and parents have experienced a financial setback.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cSince the beginning of the pandemic many people have been affected financially. Parents and students are no exception to this.\u00a0 A number of our students are adults, who work in the industry to pay their own way and have not been working for an extended period.\u00a0 In addition, many parents, some employed in the hospitality sector, have also been experiencing difficulty meeting tuition obligations,\u201d Matthias noted.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cThis award came at the most appropriate time and our students are extremely grateful.\u00a0 We are very appreciative of all that the Mill Reef Club has done to ensure that our students continue on their path at the ABHTI during these uncertain times,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Matthias also mentioned that the Mill Reef Club has exhibited great philanthropy through this venture and the ABHTI hopes to continue working together on future projects.<\/p>\n
