On March 15th, H.E. Lilian Chatterjee presented her letter of introduction to the Honourable Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, formally assuming her position as Canada\u2019s representative to the twin-island nation.<\/p>

Following the virtual ceremony, High Commissioner Chatterjee met with Governor General, H.E. Sir Rodney Williams where they reflected upon Canada and Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s strong history of friendship.<\/p>\n

H.E. Lilian Chatterjee began her career with the Government of Canada in 2003 when she joined the Canadian International Development Agency. She previously served as Director General in both CIDA and Global Affairs Canada prior to her appointment as High Commissioner to Guyana, with concurrent accreditation as Ambassador to Suriname and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).<\/p>

Ms. Chatterjee is a former journalist who worked in Canada and Southeast Asia. She subsequently worked in Canada\u2019s House of Commons and with several international NGOs before beginning her diplomatic service.<\/p>

As Canada\u2019s former Ambassador to CARICOM (2017 to 2020), High Commissioner Chatterjee is well acquainted with the governments of the Eastern Caribbean, most recently engaging Prime Minister Browne during CARICOM\u2019s 31st Intersessional Meeting of Heads of Government in February 2020.In today\u2019s meeting, also attended by the Honourable E.P. Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade and Permanent Secretary Anthony Liverpool, High Commissioner Chatterjee underscored Canada\u2019s valued relationship with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, and reviewed several key issues raised during the countries\u2019 bilateral consultations in December 2020.<\/p>\n

High Commissioner Chatterjee reaffirmed Canada\u2019s commitment to Antigua and Barbuda in the areas of gender equality, the empowerment of women and girls, and climate resilience, particularly as the country builds back from COVID-19.<\/p>
