Seven hundred and fifty (750) senior educators received their first shots of the Astrazeneca vaccine at the close of day two of the vaccination schedule on Sunday.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, American University of Antigua (AUA) opened its campus on Saturday and Sunday for technical officers within the Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries, Principals, Deputy Principals, Heads of Departments, Master Teachers and executives of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers among others to receive the jab. The medical school\u2019s faculty was also included.<\/p>\n

Ineta Francis, Assistant Director of Education, Measurement and Evaluation, was the first on Saturday to be administered the COVID-19 vaccine after completing the screening process carried out by students of the medical school.<\/p>

Director of Education, Clare Browne noted every senior educator who wished to be inoculated would have been given the opportunity on Saturday and Sunday and thanked American University of Antigua making its facilities available.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cI was impressed by the seamless process and wish to commend AUA for planning and executing the two days,\u201d the director remarked.<\/p>\n

Commenting on AUA\u2019s involvement, Vice President of Administration and Community Affairs, Vernon Solomon said giving back to the place they call home is what they do.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cWe understand the pandemic and its effects and also want to demonstrate the importance of the vaccine and for persons to be vaccinated. This is another way of saying we\u2019re all in this, we support what is being done and this is a way in which AUA would like to give back and show its support to its family here in Antigua and Barbuda,\u201d Mr. Solomon stated.<\/p>\n

Days three to five of the education vaccination schedule commenced on Monday at Antigua Girls\u2019 High School and will be opened to Teachers, Secretarial and Ancillary Staff, Farm Attendants, Parent Coordinators and other employees who interact with students.<\/p>
