Prime Minister Gaston Browne said the government might discontinue the curfew if there is a significant reduction in new cases and an excellent response to the government\u2019s vaccination programme.<\/p>

The curfew has been in force continually, in varying lengths, since March last year.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cWe know that some of the measures, including the curfew, which we had to expand, that they are creating difficulties for our people. I know that, in some instances, livelihoods have been affected but based on the trend that we\u2019re seeing now, it\u2019s possible that, you know, those measures will come to an end soon\u201d, he said on Point FM on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cThis is assuming that individuals remain responsible, and we\u2019re able to reduce the spread of COVID and possibly get the spread down to maybe single digits, maybe less than three,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cAs soon as we\u2019re able to get it under control through the existing measures plus the vaccination that we\u2019re promoting, then evidently, we\u2019ll move towards reopening.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Prime Minister said this would perhaps include \u201celiminating the curfew and reopening the country fully\u201d, which he said was \u201cvery important.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, yes, we know that people are hurting, but those individuals who have been displaced temporarily, the bar owners and so on and even restaurant operators, they must understand that the government is prioritizing protecting lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Prime Minister said the measures were working and \u201calready we have seen a reduction in the amount of individuals who visit the hospital for, at least COVID patients who visit the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to Browne, \u201cThere has been a 50% or more reduction in the rate of individuals who are infected with COVID and is seeking medical treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He said the government was \u201casking for some patience from our people.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that very shorty especially if the vaccinations go well and we have the kind of take-up that we have seen and the kind of enthusiasm that we\u2019re seeing within the last few days and the urgency in which a number of nationals are treating the vaccination process, I can say that we probably would be in far better space within the next 30 to 60 days,\u201d the Prime Minister said.<\/p>\n
