A woman will be standing trial on 30th April for operating a bar after she admitted to the court Tuesday that she merely had a social gathering at the back of her bar.<\/p>

Eloisa Perez was slapped with two charges when police spotted several vehicles in front of her bar over the weekend.<\/p>

She was charged for operating a bar during a state of emergency and failing to comply with the social gathering restriction. She only pleaded guilty to the latter and will therefore be going to trial for the former.<\/p>\n

It is said that on the afternoon of 21st February, police on mobile patrol noticed a number of vehicles parked near the Broken Stool bar, also known as Lisa\u2019s Bar, on Upper Fort Road and when they went to the back of the establishment, they counted eight people gathered and drinking.<\/p>\n

The defendant was reportedly observed coming from the side door of the bar when she was summoned. The woman attempted to explain to Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh that her bar, which is in front of her home, was closed but she hosted a social gathering in the back.<\/p>

 <\/p>\n

However, the woman was asked to save her defence for trial since she pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate revoked the woman\u2019s station bail and instead granted her temporary release in the sum of five thousand dollars, with a two-thousand-dollar cash component.<\/p>\n

She also has to report to the nearest police station three days a week, provide one surety and surrender her travel documents. (Pointe Xpress)<\/p>\n
