The letter implores President Biden to become \u201cThe Climate President.\u201d and take action against climate change while leading the world in climate adaptation, innovation and job creation.<\/p>

Among the more than 150 signatories to the letter was Amazon Founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos, Brazil Central Bank President, Arminio Fraga, Executive Chairman Ford Motor Company, Bill Ford of Ford, Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Ambassador to the United Nations and Chair of Alliance of Small Island Developing States (AOSIS), Walton Webson. Other notable signatories included Natalie Portman, Leonardo Dicaprio and Jane Fonda.<\/p>

Chief Environment Officer at the Department of Environment (DOE), Ambassdor Diann Black-Layne provided remarks on this bold gesture by these world leaders saying:<\/p>

\u201cThe Government of Antigua and Barbuda as the new Chair of AOSIS welcomes the rejoining of the US to the Paris Agreement.\u00a0 The Department Of Environment (DOE) is tracking this development and is aware that the US will be making more pronouncements on climate change over the coming days.\u00a0\u00a0 Climate change is an urgent issue and failure to act will be devastating for countries like Antigua and Barbuda.\u00a0 The DOE therefore welcomes the advocacy of everyone.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is important that all large polluters such as the US should cut their emissions radically and urgently.\u00a0 These actions will assure small island states like ours suffer fewer impacts.\u00a0\u00a0 We welcome this effort by world leaders, celebrities, scientists and other private sector individuals to push the Government of the United States of America to take urgent action.\u201d<\/p>
