Dr. Rhonda Sealey-Thomas, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), said on Wednesday that doctors were monitoring eight laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the Infectious Disease Control Centre (IDC).<\/p>

She said medical staff were also caring for a suspected case at the Mount St. John\u2019s Medical Centre (MSJMC).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re waiting on that confirmatory result but that person is being treated as a COVID-19 case. That person is in isolation\u201d, she explained.<\/p>

\u201cNone of the cases that are hospitalized are on ventilators\u201d, the CMO stressed refuting claims made in the media earlier on Wednesday.<\/p>

Ventilators, often referred to as life support machines, are used in intensive care units for patients who cannot breathe on their own.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re all receiving oxygen therapy. Two are critical in terms of the amount of oxygen they are receiving. One has improved significantly over the last 24 hours and five are mild to moderate but I want to emphasize none are at ventilators and this is as of at 5 pm when I got an update from the Medical Director, Dr. Albert Duncan\u201d, she said.<\/p>
