A trip to the La Soufriere crater rim yesterday by the team from the UWI Seismic Research Centre has revealed the dome continues to grow.<\/p>

Vincentian Geologist Professor Richard Robertson\u00a0and his team installed\u00a0a monitoring station at\u00a0Wallibou\u00a0yesterday. They made a trip to the crater rim, to take still photos and videos which will allow them to estimate the volume of material extruded and growth of the new dome.<\/p>\n

Based on observations\u00a0yesterday, the dome is slowly getting bigger.<\/p>

The SRC Team will conduct a reconnaissance of the La Soufriere Volcano on board the French Helicopter\u00a0today\u00a0through an arrangement between the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the Government of France, through the Embassy of France to the Eastern Caribbean States, to Barbados and the OECS in Saint Lucia.<\/p>\n

The Regional Security System (RSS) Aircraft will also do a surveillance of the La Soufriere Volcano\u00a0today.\u00a0While aerial\u00a0reconnaissance of La Soufriere was done\u00a0yesterday\u00a0thick cloud cover was blocking the view of the new dome.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Alert level\u00a0for the volcano\u00a0remains at Orange.\u00a0It\u00a0continues to exude magma on the surface and steam can still be observed from the Belmont Observatory. Persons living in areas close to the volcano should expect strong\u00a0sulphur smells for several days to weeks, depending on changes in wind direction.<\/p>\n

The National Emergency Management\u00a0Organisation\u00a0(NEMO) held three community meetings\u00a0yesterday\u00a0with residents of Fancy,\u00a0Owia, Point and\u00a0Calliaqua\u00a0to provide an update on the present situation at the La Soufriere Volcano\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0conduct a review of the Community Volcano Emergency Plans.<\/p>\n

In addition, residents of\u00a0Calliaqua\u00a0were also briefed on their roles as it relates to receiving persons\u00a0who will be evacuated if it becomes necessary.<\/p>\n

There will also be a meeting with residents of Sandy Bay and surrounding communities\u00a0tomorrow\u00a0at the Sandy Bay Government School to update residents on the present situation at the La Soufriere Volcano and to review the Community Volcano Emergency Plan.<\/p>\n

On January\u00a09, NEMO\u00a0will meet with residents of Georgetown and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

NEMO\u00a0is reminding the public that no evacuation order or notice has been issued\u00a0and\u00a0continues to appeal to the public to desist from visiting the La Soufriere Volcano until the scientists advise that it is safe to do so.<\/p>\n
