The Director of Education is optimistic a planned improvement of schools security will reduce incidents of break-ins and vandalism.<\/p>

Several of the institutions were burgled during the course of 2020 and items stolen and property destroyed. Acknowledging that a security issue exists, Director Clare Browne has revealed the situation is expected to improve, now that responsibilities for securing school plants will revert to the Ministry of Works.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a conversation the last day of 2020 with the Permanent Secretary of Public Works and he has promised that we are tightening screws there, so that we can have better security services being offered to the schools, Mr. Browne stated.<\/p>

Describing the break-ins and vandalisms as terrible, Director Browne said monies spent by the Board of Education effecting repairs and replacing items can be better utilized in areas such as curriculum advancement and purchasing books to facilitate learning.<\/p>

Mr. Browne is appealing to residents within communities where schools are located to assist in protecting those properties.<\/p>\n

I have always felt schools are sacred places and any attack on schools is an attack on the future of our young people and an attack on the future of our country. We appeal to all and sundry to assist us in ensuring that our schools remain safe for those who operate within them, the director noted.<\/p>
