November 25\u00a0marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and kicks off 16 days of activism to stop gender-based violence (GBV).<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation (CFPA) joins the rest of the world in calling for governments to take urgent action to ensure discriminatory laws and practices are rejected, and to implement policies and mechanisms to enable women to access justice, support and the necessary tools to combat this horror that plagues their lives, families and the entire region.<\/p>\n

Violence against women remains a pervasive and far too often a fatal phenomenon across the Caribbean with severe consequences for women and children, LGBTIQ persons and also negatively impacting men.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated this violence, especially with\u00a0lockdown measures and loss of livelihood, leaving women and children more vulnerable. In these times women and children live under the threats of these two pandemics and carry heavy burdens of pain, anxiety, depression and fear.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

The Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation has a high priority on the safety and wellbeing of women and vulnerable populations. Ending gender based violence and reproductive injustices are key steps in transforming the lives of women and girls.<\/p>\n

Today, we join with women and girls who cry out from the anguish of Gender Based Violence (GBV), calling on our governments to ensure that critical gender considerations are central to Covid-19 planning, and that the safety and wellbeing of women and children are not compromised.<\/p>

Let us shine a light on the GBV pandemic as well with a renewed sense of urgency to galvanise community, national and regional action in ensuring that women and girls are assured of a life free of violence, and are free to fully exercise their sexual and reproductive rights.<\/p>\n
