The Project Implementation Management Unit (PIMU) will be conducting a simulated road closure exercise in an effort to begin rolling out a Traffic Management Plan ahead of the commencement of road work under the Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project.<\/p>\n

The simulated road closure exercise will take place from 6:00 am on Friday 2nd February 2018 to 6:00 am on Saturday 3rd February 2018.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The section of Friars Hill Road from Cedar Grove Main Road to the junction of Old Popes Head Road is described as phase one (1A) on Friars Hill road and will be closed for 24 hours.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The road closure will allow the Traffic Management Committee (TMC) which consists of representatives from the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board, Emergency Services, Ministry of Works and Housing personnel, Representatives from the PIMU and from BHM International Limited to assess road user behavior before groundwork begins in mid-February.<\/p>\n

The project is being made possible through grant funding of 13.9 million pounds from the United Kingdom Caribbean Infrastructure Partnership Fund (UKCIF). Oversight is being provided by the Department for International Development.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The grant funding is being administered by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).
\nThe Government of Antigua and Barbuda has committed US $11 million dollars towards the project.
\nPRO for the Project Implementation Management Unit (PIMU), Shawn Thomas said: \u201cThe diversion route for phase one of the project will be Marble Hill Road.\u201d<\/p>\n

He urges road users to \u201cbe mindful of the fact that a project of this magnitude will result in some amount of traffic congestion and calls on drivers to avoid parking along byroads or main roads both during the simulation and construction phases.\u201d Thomas concluded.<\/p>

Road rehabilitation work will start on Friars Hill Road with work on Sir George Walter Highway (Airport Road) to follow soon after.<\/p>

In the Meantime: Thomas urges business owners operating along Sir. George Walter Highway to attend an interactive public stakeholder consultation on Thursday 8th February 2018 beginning at 6:00pm at the Multipurpose center to discuss the impact of the planned road work on the business community.
