A tropical depression has formed in the Caribbean Sea.<\/p>

Forecasters say it is expected to strengthen and become record-breaking Hurricane Iota before hitting Central America, which was just devastated by Hurricane Eta.<\/p>\n

Tropical depression 31 is expected to bring up to 30 inches of rain to parts of Honduras and Nicaragua.<\/p>

At 1000 AM EST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression\r\nThirty-One was located near latitude 14.2 North, longitude 74.3\r\nWest. The depression is moving toward the west-southwest near 7 mph\r\n(11 km\/h) and this motion is expected to continue through early\r\nSaturday.  A westward to west-northwestward motion at a slightly\r\nfaster forward speed is expected to begin by late Saturday and\r\ncontinue through early Monday. On the forecast track, the system\r\nwill move across the central Caribbean Sea during the next day or\r\nso, and approach the coasts of Nicaragua and northeastern Honduras\r\nlate Sunday and Monday.\r\n\r\nMaximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km\/h) with higher gusts.\r\nThe depression is forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm\r\nlater today or tonight.  Additional strengthening is likely over\r\nthe weekend, and the system could be near major hurricane strength\r\nwhen it approaches Central America.\r\n\r\nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb (29.74 inches)<\/pre>\n
