On Saturday, the Caribbean Tree Planting Project – Antigua & Barbuda kicked off another one of its projects to replant the twin island state. The latest in their series of projects took place at the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda’s headquarters.<\/p>

 <\/p>\n

Lyle Jackson – CARICOM Youth Ambassador, and Chairman of the tree planting project, along with members of the executive team, Guishonne Powell – National Youth Ambassador and Deputy-Chairman, Laverne David & Roshineque Ferris, Social Media Coordinators & Public Relations Team, teamed up with Sergeant Nigel David of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, and Members of the Antigua and Barbuda National Cadet Corps, to battle the sweltering heat, and execute Phase 1 of the project. This phase included planting an assortment of palm trees along the south-eastern perimeter of the headquarters’ property.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The next phase will include planting fruit trees, and will bring the project at the police headquarters a little closer to completion. The objective of the initiative is to help replant the islands, and to bring awareness to the importance of trees in our everyday lives.<\/p>

Jackson says that, “Trees, although often go unnoticed, are the source of our very existence. They provide food; the base of every meal, water; as it influences a healthy rain cycle, creates oxygen, traps greenhouse gases that lead to global warming, give shelter; as it provides lumber, and mature trees prevent flooding and soil erosion by binding the earth.”<\/p>

Private and public entities, and persons interested in joining forces with the Caribbean Tree Planting Project – Antigua and Barbuda can do so by reaching out to the team on Facebook at\u00a0https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CaribbeanTreePlantingProjectAntiguaBarbuda\/<\/a>\u00a0Donations of gardening tools such as, forks, spade shovels, watering cans, and plant bags, are very much welcomed as the project seeks to expand.<\/p>\n
