In February 2019 I decided to start my own little Back Yard Garden at my home as a past-time that could eventually assist in lowering my fresh produce bill at the supermarket, as well as allowing me to eat healthier on a more regular basis.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Planting a variety of vegetables was exciting and easy for me due to my past knowledge and experience growing up on a family farm.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In March 2019,\u00a0 I joined the Zero Hungry Backyard Garden Group and their initiative towards increasing Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Food Security.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

With the guidance and aid of Zero Hunger,\u00a0 Backyard Garden Facilitators Ms. Efuru Elihu and Mr. Ayo Simon at the Ministry of Agriculture, \u00a0I was inspired to take on a larger farming initiative.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

The untimely arrival of COVID – 19 to the shores of Antigua and Barbuda forced me to move at a faster pace in making my farming aspirations a reality.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After teaming up with my good friend and business partner Mr. Darius Christmas, a native of Dominica, we\u2019ve decided to start a group entitled \u201cBack Yard Garden Builders\u201c which is aimed at assisting home owners in developing their very own back yard garden.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

This initiative of ours has been well received by Back Yard Garden owners as we push forward towards increasing food security of Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Later in July 2020 Mr. Christmas and I got an amazing opportunity to partner with Mr. Don Broodie who resides in the UK to develop a farm on a property of his in the Pigotts area.<\/p>

 <\/p>\n

We aggressively took on the venture that has brought us to this point of success.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

With the initial focus towards mono farming, we\u2019ve decided to experiment with lettuce and cucumbers.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With the expertise and experience of both Mr. Christmas and I along with the financial aid of Mr. Broodie, we\u2019ve decided to grow 100% organic produce.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The name of the farm is Brodie Organic Farm.<\/p>\n

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, in particular, \u00a0the Ministry of Agriculture are to be greatly commended for their wonderful assistance through granting us duty free for all tools and equipment purchased overseas to date.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are very pleased with the quality of produce in both the Lettuce and Cucumbers.<\/p>\n

Finding ways to master the healthy growing of these crops has been challenging but the end produce is proof of our diligence and success.<\/p>\n

But this could not happen at the rapid rate it did without the partnership and involvement of all, in particular the wonderful team at the Ministry of Agriculture.<\/p>\n
