Governor General, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams is leading the charge at the Office of the Governor General in a number of activities to mark Caribbean Wellness Day 2020 which will be celebrated on Saturday September 12. In addition to the areas of Education and the preservation of History and Heritage, Health and Wellness is one of three platforms to which Their Excellencies Sir Rodney and Lady Williams have pledged their support.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In August of this year , His Excellency launched the \u2018Don\u2019t Quit, Get Fit \u2018 programme with the support of the Halo Foundation. This initiative was designed to sensitize the nation during the COVID 19 pandemic to the importance of leading healthy lifestyles through regular exercise , proper dietary habits and the awareness of the factors that predispose to non-communicable diseases\u2014 and the staff of the Office of the Governor General have chosen to lead by example .<\/p>\n

The physical training programme is being conducted by fitness instructor Mr. Garry Stevens of Skulpt iFITT and wellness seminars are being delivered by local experts on topics such as nutrition, mental health and spiritual wellbeing.<\/p>

The general public is able to participate by entering competitions on the Halo Foundation social media platforms with several prizes to be won , and by taking advantage of special incentives for joining the Skulpt iFITT Fitness Programme.
\n(The Halo Foundation is the vehicle through which the Governor General performs his charitable duties for over 33 service clubs and organizations. )<\/p>

His Excellency, Sir Rodney Williams commends local sports icons Sir Richie Richardson and Team Island Girls as well as the Non Communicable Disease (NCD) Unit in the Ministry of Health and other groups who are engaged in various related activities to mark the annual occasion .<\/p>\n

Caribbean Wellness Day was mandated by CARICOM in 2007 in response to the high levels of non communicable diseases such as hypertension, \u00a0diabetes mellitus and obesity in the Caribbean.<\/p>
